KINGS & THUNDER CODE OF CONDUCT

Colchester Kings RFC and Colchester Thunder RFC Code of Conduct

Whether you play Union with Colchester Kings RFC, or Touch with Colchester Thunder RFC, we - collectively as one Club - support our teammates, friends and chosen family. We're proud to welcome people of all genders, sexualities, ages and backgrounds, creating a vibrant, safe, and fun space to experience rugby.

As part of this Club - whether you're a Player, Coach, Supporter, or Committee Member - you agree to uphold the following Code of Conduct:

REPRESENTATION

You represent the Club on and off the pitch. Whether you're in the Clubhouse, at a Touch tournament, on tour, or attending any Club-organised event, your actions reflect not only on you, but on our Club, our sponsors, and Colchester RFC. Your behaviour must remain respectful at all times.

WEAR THE COLOURS WITH PRIDE

Whether you’re wearing Kings or Thunder kit, you represent our values. This includes in person and on social media. Club kit remains the property of the Club, must be cared for, and returned intact when requested. Kit must only be used for activities officially representing the Club. Use of kit or Club branding online is subject to Committee approval.

RESPECT YOUR TEAMMATES

Respect is at the core of our community and all members must treat each other - and members from other Clubs - with fairness, dignity, and respect - on the pitch, at training, or at any Club event.

The Club has zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind - whether in person, online, or through Club activities. Anyone found to be disrespectful or using the Club for purposes that conflict with our values will be held accountable.

ENGAGE WITH THE COMMITTEE

Our Club is run by volunteers. Members are expected to engage respectfully and responsibly with Committee and coaches requests, including paying fees on time and responding promptly to communications.

CREATE OUR CULTURE

We all shape the Club. If you hear inappropriate language or see behaviour that doesn’t align with our values, we expect you to speak up or report it. Everyone contributes to making our Club a safe and inclusive environment.

ABIDE BY THE RULES

When playing at home or visiting other clubs, you must respect the rules of the host venue, whether it’s Colchester RFC or another rugby club.

SAFEGUARDING AND INCLUSION

We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for all. The Club follows RFU safeguarding guidelines and expects all members to respect boundaries, report concerns, and help maintain a welcoming environment for people of all genders, sexualities, abilities, and ages.

ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

Consuming alcohol or using illegal or controlled substances impairs judgement, performance, and safety. Players and supporters must not use, possess, sell, or distribute illegal drugs, or consume alcohol irresponsibly during Club activities - whether at home or away.

SOCIAL MEDIA & DIGITAL COMMUNICATION

Social media helps us share our achievements - but it must be used responsibly.

Do not:

- Criticise or abuse teammates or opposition players online.

- Share sensitive or controversial information about the Club.

- Post images of unethical or illegal behaviour while wearing Club kit or teamwear.

Members are also expected to communicate respectfully in all digital Club spaces, including WhatsApp groups, emails, and private messages.

Sanctions:

If these rules are breached, your access to Club social media groups may be restricted, and you may be prohibited from tagging or representing the Club online for 30 days. Repeat or serious misconduct may lead to disciplinary action.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ALL MEMBERS

Every member of Colchester Kings RFC and Colchester Thunder RFC is expected to uphold these behavioural standards.

PLAYERS

- Respect the referee and follow the laws of the game - communication should go through your team captain.

- Commit to personal growth: engage with training and the coaching team.

- Be a good sport - win or lose - showing respect to teammates and opposition alike.

- Be punctual for training and fixtures. If running late, inform your coach or captain in advance.

- Players in Touch formats (Thunder) must understand and adhere to non-contact rules and promote safe, respectful play in mixed-gender environments.

COACHES

- Operate fair and transparent team selections and substitutions across both Kings and Thunder.

- Never allow a player to train or play with a known injury that could risk their health.

- Commit to ongoing coaching development, including relevant training and Club development opportunities.

SUPPORTERS

- Respect the decisions of match officials.

- Never abuse or harass players, officials, or other supporters - whether from our Club or others.

- Offer positive encouragement—support our players with cheers, not criticism of others.
COMMITTEE

- Uphold this Code of Conduct and the Club’s constitution.

- Ensure Club operations are transparent, accountable, and inclusive.

- Lead the Club with the future in mind, leaving it stronger than you found it.

DISCIPLINARY PROCESS

Under RFU rules, the Club is responsible for addressing any internal breaches of this Code. If you witness or experience a breach, please contact the Club Secretary in confidence.

Disciplinary actions may include:

- Verbal warning

- Written warning

- Temporary suspension

- Permanent removal from the Club

The Committee will consider each case based on the severity of the breach, previous behaviour, and the impact on others. The Club is committed to handling issues fairly, confidentially, and with integrity.

Members have the right to request a review of any disciplinary action by contacting the Club Secretary in writing. Reviews will be handled fairly, and outcomes will be communicated clearly.

RFU Core Values

Rugby’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are what makes the game special for those who enjoy the environment and culture they create.
