Play with pride
We are East Anglia’s inclusive rugby team, dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies who share a passion for rugby.
Founded in June 2022, we are the region's first inclusive rugby team that welcomes people of any sexuality, experience, or fitness level. Regardless of your background, our club provides a safe and encouraging space where everyone can get involved in sport. Whether you’re a seasoned player or completely new to rugby, you’ll find a place to grow, connect, and thrive with the Kings.
Our mission goes beyond the field; we strive to break down barriers, promote diversity in sports, and build a strong sense of community both on and off the pitch. Through our training sessions, matches, and social calendar, we create opportunities to make lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories.
Join us, and discover the power of teamwork, pride, and belonging with the Colchester Kings.
We’re on the road in 2025 to bring a taster of rugby to your door step so you can give it a try!
Regardless of your previous experience, our taster sessions are planned to be a fun way to get in to team sports and meet some new people.
We will be visiting Ipswich, Chelmsford and Colchester to hold a 1 hour taster session at a park near you. You won’t need to bring anything with you, just some nervous energy and a smile! (and maybe a jumper!).

Inclusive rugby welcomes people of all sexualities to join in rugby training and matches. Colchester Kings aims to give an open and inclusive space so that members of the LGBTQ+ community feel comfortable to take part in traditional team sports where the opportunity may not have previously been available.
Be sure to be bring along a bottle of water with you.
We recommend comfortable active wear that you might wear to the gym. Shorts are usually best as they allow best movement. T-shirts, vests, jumpers are all weather dependent - you may need a few layers in the winter.
Rugby boots are recommended for our grass training pitch, however we know boots can be expensive so trainers will be fine for your first few sessions.
For matches you'll need a gumshield, and for some positions you may like to wear some additional pads.
It's understandable to be nervous about some elements of rugby. We train weekly and develop our team skills including tackling and being tackled. It is possible for this to be done safely with the correct training and technique.
As with most sports, injury is possible. We ask that you follow the Coach or session leader's advice and direction to prevent injury.
Looking for a fun and inclusive way to enjoy rugby without the tackles? Our touch rugby squad, Colchester Thunder RFC, is perfect for you!
Whether you’re new to the sport or prefer a non-contact alternative, Thunder offers a welcoming environment where you can stay active, develop your skills, and be part of a supportive community. Touch rugby is fast-paced, social, and accessible to all fitness levels—perfect for those who want to enjoy the thrill of the game with a lighter physical impact.
Come along and experience the camaraderie and energy of Thunder—no matter your background or experience, there’s a place for you here!
